The Northfield Experience- May 4-6, 2018

Stephan Koplowitz has been commissioned by both Carleton and St. Olaf College to create The Northfield Experience which will premiere on May 4-6, 2018 for five performances. It will feature a cast of over 50 dancers and actors with more than 200 singers and several visual/media artists performing 8 different works all inspired by the town of Northfield, Minnesota.

The inspiration for The Northfield Experience, was born out St. Olaf and Carleton College desire to collaborate on the creation of a site-specific performance event. When I made my first visit to both campuses in 2014, it was clear that the site they share, is not their campuses, but the town of Northfield whose town center is located directly between these two historic institutions. Creating an event that would bring the two colleges closer together but also bring the community of Northfield into their vision for collaboration is part of my vision. I want The Northfield Experience, to be a true site-specific work of performance, making the history (recent and past) and the architecture of Northfield part of the themes and content of work. Overall, The Northfield Experience's overall theme is TIME and how our perception of time is manipulated and fractured through history, place and space (architecture).

Several linked performances, all sited in Northfield will support an immersive experience for the audience featuring eight different locations featuring different forms of media/visual arts, theater, dance and music.

Students, faculty artists from Carleton and St. Olaf and community artists from all artistic disciplines are part of the collaborative team that will create this work.
